The Xoloitzcuintli is a rare and primative breed that originated more than 3000 years ago in the jungles of Colima, Mexico. Used for hunting, traveling companions, guardians, bed warmers and food. Natives believed these animals were the embodiment of the "God of the Afterlife", Xolotl. They were revered as the "Guides to the afterlife", often buried with their owners. Today, the locals still believe these canines have medicinal powers, giving comfort to the injured and ill.
